September 26, 2010 Dear Cell, This week seems to be quite peaceful and smooth, though, we have more classes to attend. Its Sunday. However, were taking lessens to make up for the break of Mid-autumn Festival Day. The recruiting work has come to an end. On balance, Im satisfied with the process as I interviewed many excellent freshmen. They read a lot; theyre quick-thinking and open-minded, equipped with new ideas and dynamic personalities. As a sophomore, I feel stressed at times when I think about the responsibility I have to bear and the guidance Ive got to offer. I should expand the amount of reading and access to more new ideas and leadership. A year has gone, and only three years left. The best response to the lapse of time is to cherish the things each period present to us. Over the year, I did experience a lot, lost and gain, bitter and sweet, and now Im calm and confident enough to greet more challenges. Looking at the lively faces, I clearly understand their expectation for a fascinating university life. The truth is, were all disappointed as well as surprised afterwards. I may as well encourage them to work harder on their studies, for in the end, few things are really beneficial. On the other hand, Id motivate them to picture their own university life, for the sake of an unforgettable youth. Were not supposed to be dreamers. But we can have our own fantasy. I still cant accept that collegians have to bear heavy school load and are confined to all sorts of useless subjects. Shit! Im fed up with all these stuff. I enjoy learning in my own way, for myself. I hate those systematic restrictions and cramming method of teaching. Some subjects, after taking the final exam, I sponge them out Im the one who always keep looking forward, I never drowned myself in the previous school life, and Ive been imagining how life will be after graduation. Since I am bred up in China, its unrealistic to refer to the idea of home-education. Public schools provide a place where pupils can gradually get used to the intercourse and making friends. And the comprehensive curriculum will shape their knowledge structure to a large extent, while the home-education will allow more freedom on self-learning, and they dont have to deal with excessive exams. I find it lucky to grow up, since todays pupils are assigned with far more tasks than at my age. Anyway, when were too busy to complain, we forget all the unhappy things and sorrows; when were too tired to protest, we face up to the reality. Ive no idea how you are doing in your job as a teacher, maybe youve seen the students come and gone year by year, and few of them are still within your horizon. Surely enough, you may have spent some meaningful time with them, for you render help, guidance and encouragements to them, accompany them, and witness their growing up. As you refuse to reveal any detail about your private life, Im disappointed but I respect this. Mid-aged guys always store too many secrets in deep heart. I cherish every opportunity communicating with experienced people, attracted by their life stories, the toughness they went through, and the different view of life from my generation, or, just their daily routine.
